If you’re thinking of getting a new smart phone, here’s one you might consider. Check out my review of the new Nokia Lumia 900.
First off, it’s bigger than my iphone. It’s got a 4.3 inch screen But I don’t mind..its great for looking at pictures, browsing the web or watching videos.. and it still fits in my pocket, no problem.
I like the fun colors. It comes in black, white and this Cyan blue, which I like a lot because it’s definitely easier to spot in my purse. Moms you know what I mean, hunting for your phone in the purse can be very frustrating especially when you’ve got a baby in the other arm.
I do like the home screen. The Lumia runs Windows Phone 7, giving us these nice big icons or what they call tiles, making everything all that much easier to find.
The display has what they call an AMOLED “clear-black” screen. The resolution is a little lower than other smart phones out there but honestly moms, unless you’re looking at hi-res photos all day, you’re really not going the difference too much.
The camera on the Lumia 900 is pretty good. It’s got an 8 megapixel camera on the back, which takes good photos and a 1 megapixel in the front which great for everyday candid shots for dad or grandma.
It’s also got the 4G LTE. This I really like and noticeably faster than my current phone. Connecting on the internet with this phone (if you’ve got coverage in your area) is lightning fast, faster than my home broadband connection. It really is, I swear!
Its battery life is pretty long considering how much I check & send email, surf the internet, tweet, & take pictures. For me it lasted a full day without a charge.
Here’s the best part, it’s only 99 bucks!(with a 2 year contract) but that’s half the price of the cheapest smart phones out there. Now THAT… mommyloves.
So here’s what didn’t impress me.
-the buttons on the side of the phone need some rethinking. It takes you awhile to figure out which is which.
-and although it’s got an 8 megapixel camera which is good enough…it just isn’t as crisp as other smart phones. You might want to bring along a point and shoot camera on those family vacations or to important school functions.
-lastly, for now, there aren’t very many apps to choose from compared to the android market or the apple app store.
So– will I make the switch to the Lumia? I probably won’t, but that doesn’t mean I don’t recommend it. I know some people who weren’t very impressed with it, but you know what, for our basic needs this is a great phone. I might get this one for my mom!
All in all, I give the Nokia Lumia 900 a ’3 hearts out of 5′ on our MommyLoves meter. So if you’re thinking of taking the plunge, going from your old-school phone to a smart phone, this may be a way to go. Check it out and let me know what you think.
